The Ist World Traditional Combat Games will be held in Chuvashia in autumn 2023

The head of the Chuvash government, Oleg Nikolaev, noted that such Games will combine traditional and national types of wrestling of various peoples of the Russian Federation and other states.

July, 1 /TASS/ For the first time in history the Chuvash Republic will host World Traditional Combat Games in autumn, in which athletes from different regions of Russia, as well as from other states, will take part. This was announced at the opening of the national Chuvash holiday Akatui on Saturday in Moscow's Sokolniki park by the head of the Chuvash government Oleg Nikolaev.

«In late September - early October the Ist World Traditional Combat Games will be held for the first time in Chuvashia, Cheboksary, which will combine both traditional types of wrestling and national types of wrestling of various peoples of the Russian Federation and other states», - Nikolaev said.

He added that the Chuvash national wrestling kereshu has become one of the most spectacular events of the Akatui holiday. At one of the venues, athletes from Chuvashia, Moscow, Bashkiria and other regions demonstrated their skills for the guests of the event.

Kereshu wrestling is a traditional Chuvash belt wrestling. It is a national sport and is officially included in the All-Russian register of sports.

Akatui is one of the most important national holidays of the Chuvash people, it sings of love for the native land and respect for the work of agricultural workers. In translation, «aka» means sowing, «tui» - wedding. Since ancient times, the Chuvash people have gathered on this holiday to congratulate each other on the arrival of summer. On this day, running competitions were also held, youth and children participated in folk amusements, and the Chuvash people brewed beer and the national soup Shurpe on Akatui.

The holiday is supported by the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of the city of Moscow, the government of the Chuvash Republic, the Chuvash national cultural autonomy.
